The Lighthouse Boulder

Working in partnership with a client for a skate park in Miami, Florida, I was tasked with constructing three identical lighting cages made of durable 1/4" Corten steel. The client provided me with a render of their vision and I was responsible for bringing it to life. In the end, I successfully designed the Lighthouse Boulder which serves not only as a functional lighting structure, but also doubles as a unique element in the overall aesthetic of the skate park.
Constraints:
Individual pieces must fit on a 10’ x 5’ sheet of metal to be able to be cut on the CNC laser
Individual pieces must be able to also fit on the CNC press brake
Include an access panel that allows for maintenance
Minimize the use of welding to increase strength and decrease production time
Structural details need to adhere to the guidelines of Miami ordinance
Only twelve days to turn around full design to the client
Renders and cut sheet provided by the client
Completed products prior to shipping from the manufacturing site.
